Wildfire is a reality of living in the mountains, but there are proven steps homeowners can take to better protect their homes.

We’re currently completing the Wildfire Prepared Home™ Program through IBHS to learn more about wildfire-resilient building practices and how they can be applied to both new construction and existing homes.

The program focuses on:
✔️ Ember-resistant building materials
✔️ Defensible space around the home
✔️ Wildfire-wise landscaping
✔️ Roof, vent, window, and exterior protection
✔️ Practical mitigation strategies that can make a big difference

As insurance challenges continue across Colorado, these practices may help improve insurability.

Concrete delivery in the mountains is no joke. When the nearest ready-mix plant is forty five minutes to an hour away, that concrete is already starting to set by the time it arrives. That's why we collaborate with other local concrete companies to bring in extra hands. That's what it takes to build right in Westcliffe. Teamwork makes the dream work.

It’s been another busy week at Cordova Builders, and we’re excited to share progress across four very different projects!

✔️ Project 1: Finishing touches are underway with stunning concrete countertops installed and some incredible nighttime photos that showcase this home’s mountain charm.

✔️ Project 2: Foundation walls are poured and we’re getting ready for the next major phase—underground plumbing and in-floor radiant heat.

✔️ Project 3: One of our most remote mountain builds received its lumber package this week, and the radiant-heated slab has officially been poured.

✔️ Project 4: We’re gearing up to break ground on another Custom Home. Final planning is underway, and we’re excited to bring this vision from blueprint to reality.

Every project is different, but the goal is always the same: quality craftsmanship and a home built to last.

Friday project update from the mountains 🏔️🔨

A little bit of everything this week at Cordova Builders:

• Foundation going in on a new build

• Covered patio coming together
• Finishing touches with bathroom tile, metal soffit under the porch, and stained & stamped concrete

Mountain builds don’t happen in a straight line. 🏔️

This week:
• staking out a new custom home before excavation begins
• continuing progress on a remote off-grid build with sub-plumbing and in-floor radiant heat installation

A lot happens behind the scenes before a home ever looks “finished” — especially in remote mountain terrain where planning and infrastructure matter just as much as framing.

This is the part most people never see… but it’s what sets the project up to last.

Progress happening all across the valley lately. 🏔️🔨

• Back helping a repeat customer with a new garage apron
• Excavation started for an upcoming custom home
• Finished out an accessory building project
