Dollar Spot: Small Spots Can Lead to Big Problems 🌱
Have you noticed small, straw-colored patches popping up across your lawn? It could be dollar spot, one of the most common lawn diseases we see this time of year.
In its early stages, dollar spot appears as small tan or bleached patches about the size of a silver dollar. As it spreads, those spots can merge together, leaving your lawn looking thin and unhealthy.
What causes it? • High humidity and morning dew • Warm days with cool nights • Low nitrogen levels • Prolonged leaf moisture
The good news is that dollar spot is treatable. Fungicide applications can stop the disease from spreading, and maintaining proper fertility—especially adequate nitrogen—helps the lawn recover more quickly. Watering deeply in the early morning instead of the evening can also reduce disease pressure.
If you're seeing damage like the lawn pictured below, don't ignore it. Catching dollar spot early is the key to preventing widespread damage and getting your lawn back to a healthy, deep green.
