New York has now confirmed its first case of Bourbon virus, a rare tick-borne virus transmitted by the lone star tick. The confirmed case involved a Long Island resident who was bitten by ticks while working outdoors in Suffolk County.
What makes Bourbon virus especially concerning?

Researchers at Stony Brook Medicine have warned that Bourbon virus could be more prevalent in our region than currently recognized, especially with the dense populations of lone star ticks found throughout New York and the Northeast.
