If a contractor hands you a number without backing it up, that number means nothing.We always recommend getting three bids and not just dollar amounts. A real bid tells you what's included: appliances, fixtures, scope of work, all of it. Without that detail, you have no way to compare, and no protection against the change orders that will follow.Even if you love your contractor and trust them completely, a second or third bid keeps everyone honest. That's not a knock on anyone. It's just good practice.

If your insurance company just offered you $600,000, do not sign anything yet.
That number is almost always a first bid. Most policies have a maximum well above that figure, and the difference between accepting early and fighting for the full amount can be hundreds of thousands of dollars. A public adjuster represents your interests, not the insurance company's, and that distinction matters enormously when your home is on the line.
