The temps have come down below 90 and the runner beans are setting! Can’t wait to start harvesting.

While they won’t set new pods during the peak summer heat here in Colorado, once summer mellows out a bit they produce all the way until a killing frost.

5 years ago I found a rosemary growing in Boulder that has been unprotected for at least 16 years. It’s amazing what google maps street view pictures can tell you 😉

This year it finally bloomed and produced a few seeds. I’m hoping these 21 seeds can be the start of a seed propagated hardy rosemary line. 🤞

Ligularia fischeri or gomchwi. A perennial Asian green that is super productive. These have taken their time to get big enough to flower and harvest here in Colorado. I’ve enjoyed the flavorful greens in several dishes this year and am excited to try more ways to use them. Hoping to make seed available through next year. Stay tuned...

Simple planting of holy basil and blue spice basil.

Pull back the woodchips, add a healthy helping of compost, plant starts by poking holes with a dibber, put the chips back as mulch and water well.

Can’t wait to make tea with these basils, they smell soooo good!

These tiny Andrena mining bees are spring pollination superstars! They pollinate a large portion of our fruit trees, even when the honeybees aren’t active.

These are nesting in a bare dirt strip between the sidewalk and a fence. The nests will remain there unnoticed until next spring when the next generation emerges to do it again.

Make a little room for these ladies, and reap a better fruit harvest!

We all have our nemesis in the garden, but what about the ones we are responsible for? What do you wish you never planted? For me it has got to be “Snow on the Mountain” or Goutweed, Aegopodium podagraria.
This winter I found out it is actually edible, and tastes good. It makes a pretty darn good pesto!

Fava beans coming up. These were plated 3-4 weeks ago before we got a round of spring snow. These are a tall variety and are in alternate rows with parsnips to give a double yield from this bed with only one planting. The favas will get the microbes going and provide some nitrogen for the parsnips, while the parsnips will help shade the fava’s roots when it starts to get hot.

Meanwhile, the favas in the cold frame that were planted in January are just now starting to bloom.
