The Captured Garden

The Captured Garden Award-winning, one-of-a-kind container and garden designs mean our clients' homes are always beautiful, never typical. www.thecapturedgarden.com

The Captured Garden has worked throughout New England creating container gardens, and designing gardens for clients who want their homes to be beautiful, not typical. By using custom designs that showcase uncommon plants we create combinations for our clients that are anything but cookie cutter. Our goal, when the project is completed, is to hear “It’s perfect, it’s just what I wanted,” followed q

uickly by “What is that beautiful plant, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Deborah Trickett, owner of The Captured Garden, is an award-winning container garden designer whose work has been featured in The Boston Globe, Garden Gate magazine, New England Home magazine and on the TV show New England Dream Home. She is a Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist and a frequent lecturer on container gardening at the Boston Flower and Garden Show, as well as the Philadelphia International Flower Show. She also teaches classes and workshops at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. Ask Deborah about bringing one of her many well-received lecture topics to your garden club or adult-learners groups.

I am in love.

Meet my darling granddaughter who decided to make her appearance almost four weeks early! She is small but otherwise perfect. God's masterpiece.

After spending even a few days with her I realize what an incredible gift being a grandparent is. I intend to enjoy every minute so you will probably see less of me on social media. You can always reach out through my website: thecapturedgarden.com

I'm so very grateful for all of you who have followed The Captured Garden on this very exciting journey over the last 20 years. I am very much looking forward to the next chapter!

I LOVE my garden. I think, based on the vibes I'm getting, it might love me back😁

First of the floating flowers!

I have always loved this idea as it causes me to go around the garden and see what's in bloom. Then I pop it in this sweet bird bath and truly appreciate its beauty as I come and go.

Happy Friday 🌱

Loading up for a big installation at a Boston roof garden tomorrow. (Final one for these WONDERFUL clients who are moving and selling their sweet space). In my van, the workhorse of The Captured Garden, I fit multiple tropicals, annuals, 12 bags of potting soil , 3 large pots and 3 large arborvitae. I feel a bit like I am playing Tetris! Thank you Chrysler Pacifica.

Of course, before I drive I will check for bugs and animals! Never a good thing to be driving down the highway and have a hitchhiker make himself known. And that has happened. (Check out my Instagram post from November 18, 2018!)

I realize I haven't posted in a while, so here are a few snippets from my spring garden. Which honestly, has been keeping me too busy to post!

You might think the next to last picture is deferred maintenance in my garden with all the leaves and branches strewn about. That is intentional. I do not clean up my gardens too early as the leaf litter is wonderful for overwintering pollinators as well as birds that will eat the insects under them. I have had Eastern bluebirds, goldfinches, chickadees, cardinals, nuthatches, so many birds! Also, I save my branches and in the last photo you will see I use them to protect plants that might be susceptible to deer browsing, in this case a newly planted hydrangea.

Happy spring!

Whew, that's a wrap on Winter 2025. Thank you to all my great clients who allowed me to stretch my creativity, I loved creating florals for your parties, especially the beautiful cherub statue for an engagement party. Of course we know during the holidays there's no place like gnome and that was also a fun theme.

Looking forward to all that 2026 has in store, including lots of workshops, garden tours, and of course more creative containers! Happy New Year!
