Project we are working on right now. County would not allow another entrance on property so we widened the existing culvert to a full 40 feet for trailer access, regraded the entire ditch, built up a road with proper crown, geotextile fabric, and drainage to get back to the corner of the property where we are clearing for a 40 x 60 metal building. We also had to move the water meter to the opposite side of the existing concrete driveway. If youre going to build a gravel driveway this is the way to do it. Build it right, build it tough so that you dont spend thousands of dollars later bringing in more rock and having to fix washouts. Properly built, crowned, and sloped sub base with all drainage taken into consideration. Next step was geotextile fabric to form a barrier between the base layer of gravel and the sub base (dirt). This helps stabilize the drive and keeps the gravel from pushing down into the dirt and having to top with gravel every few years. The larger rock will filter water and provide a driveway for all traffic during the build. After concrete and the building is complete this drive will be topped with 6 inches of crusher run and compacted with a vibratory roller for smoothness and when wet will turn almost concrete hard. Then (optional) topped with 2 inches of a clean #57 washed stone to keep down the dust and muck wet/dry crusher run makes. Cant wait to finish up the grading and build the pad for this one.
