Boxelder bugs are common in Minnesota during late summer and fall.
They are often found around boxelder, maple, and ash trees.
They gather in warm, sunny spots before looking for places to overwinter.
They can be a nuisance, but they do not seriously harm people, pets, or healthy trees.

Sealing cracks, gaps, windows, and doors can help keep them outside.
A little prevention in September can help reduce unwanted fall visitors.

Emerald ash borer continues to impact ash trees across Minnesota.

If you have an ash tree, watch for signs like bark splitting, bark falling off, thinning canopy, woodpecker activity, dead branches, or small D-shaped exit holes.

By the time damage is easy to see, the tree may already be under serious stress.

If something looks off with your ash tree, it’s best to have it looked at before it becomes unsafe.
