Let’s remember the four P’s: People, Pets, Pipes and plants. As our cold weather truly starts lets take caution. Check to make sure all your windows and doors are sealing well to help keep the cold out. Make sure your furry friends have a warm safe place to stay out of the elements. Wrap your outside hose bibs and exposed plumbing to help prevent freezing. This can be done with store bought insulated covers or loose insulation, old cloths and blankets. Its best to secure multiple layers over the plumbing to help hold as much heat as possible. Leave cabinets open to the room to allow heat from the house into areas with plumbing. Allow both your hot and cold sides drip at the faucets. Just be aware that if we get another freeze like we had a couple years ago the water was actually freezing in the drain pipes and overflowing sinks! Also bring in those potted plants and cover your plants that are less likely to live through such a harsh cold. Be safe and check on your neighbors.
