Going to be a cold weekend in the Wichita Falls area!
4pm Wednesday Winter Storm Update: This map is showing the predominant precipitation type for the area through early Saturday. With that being said, most of the area will see all three of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. This is just showing the majority type of precipitation. No matter where you are on this map, expect dangerous travel conditions throughout this weekend.
As far as accumulations go, these are all possible:
Up to a quarter-inch of ice
1-3" of sleet
Up to 6" of snow
NOTE: You will not get the maximum of all three of these. Meaning you could get 0.1" of freezing rain, 1" of sleet, and 3-4" of snow in a spot, but not 0.25" of freezing rain, 3" of sleet, and 6" of snow. You'll get a combination in the ranges. Higher snow totals are expected in the blue, higher sleet totals in the purple, higher freezing rain totals in the pink.
Road conditions will likely get bad Friday night. Friday before sunset looks ok at this time. Roads will be dangerous for the rest of the weekend, potentially into early next week.
Another round of heavier precipitation is possible late Saturday. This would be mostly snow, and could potentially increase snowfall totals across the area. We will likely end with some flurries early on Sunday.
Stay safe and warm! -Michael
