What a great day for roof inspections. First was a clay tile roof on a 9 story building in downtown Wichita. The other was for a Davinci roof that we installed a few years ago at a church in West Wichita. The Church navigating a hail claim from the hail storm last fall.

We just finished this new construction clay tile roof by Verea tile in their s tile profile in the Jacobea blend. This clay tile roof turned out fantastic and we couldn't be happier with the installation and performance of the verea tile. Clay tile has the strength and beauty to last over a hundred years.

This turned out to be a great project. This started as a real estate purchase for home buyers looking to buy a house with a clay tile roof. Three other roofers looked at the roof and said it was fine and needed a $1550-$2000 repair. I was referred by another roofer to come in and inspect the roof. We discovered the built in gutters were leaking and had spots that were completely rusted through, missing flashing, holes in the chimney flashing, underlayment that was deteriorated and starting to show signs of leak.
If you have a tile roof, clay or concrete, it is imperative to have a professional with years of experience inspect the roof before any home purchase. Tile roof are a great roof, that hold up to wind and hail but pose big issues when they are not maintained properly or the wrong roofers have made poor repairs.
This project turned out great with a complete relay of the Ludowici clay tile with a high temp fully adhered underlayment to the entire roof deck, new Epdm flat roof, and a complete coating of the built in gutters.

Another Brava Tile roof installation is underway. The Brava shake in the arendale color blend complements white siding or brick. Several factors contribute to a quality roof. The roofing material and manufacturer are crucial, as are the underlayment, valley metal, chimney flashing, step flashing, and installation. On this new roof, we are using Atlas weathermaster tile high temp self adhered underlayment to match the life of the Brava synthetic shake shingles. One of the most common errors we see in the roofing industry is the use of cheap underlayment that does not last the life of the shingles, causing leaks and issues within a few years of a new roof.

I'm often asked why there can be a big price difference from one company to another. Here is a prime example on a tile roof repair that was attempted last year. The underlayment is shot and the decking is rotted, the company put a peel and stick rolled roofing material onto the bad felt to get the repair done as cheap and as fast as possible. The home owner had no idea and now he is dealing with the same leak that he already paid to be fixed once.
A general rule in construction. If someone is much cheaper than other bids, there is usually a reason why.
