♻️ Sometimes the best fabrication is figuring out how NOT to throw something away.

Yesterday afternoon’s project was a little different.

We cut into a perfectly good existing quartz countertop at a commercial bar area so the GC can lower a section of the wall to the proper ADA height.

Instead of throwing the existing quartz away, CCM carefully removed it and will reuse it. We’ll rip approximately 4” from the existing piece and reapply it to finish the exposed edge after the wall is lowered.

Once the GC finishes modifying the wall, we’ll come back, re-template the new ADA-height section and fabricate the additional countertop.

The only catch? The existing quartz color has been discontinued, so the new ADA section will have to be a different color.

That’s where we get creative. Rather than trying to hide the difference, we’ll make the new material look intentional and make the entire area look right again.

Reuse what we can. Minimize waste. Solve the problem.

That’s a little bit of lean manufacturing mixed with a whole lot of countertop experience. 👍

Sometimes a countertop job gives you a little more than you bargained for! 😅

We went into this project expecting to overlay the existing countertops, but the homeowner had already removed the old laminate for us. They were trying to help save us some time—which we definitely appreciate—but removing laminate from a plywood substrate can be pretty unforgiving.

Once the old laminate came off, portions of the plywood surface were damaged and uneven. Before we could install anything new, our crew had to rebuild those areas with Rock Hard putty, then sand and prep the entire surface as smooth as possible.

It wasn’t your typical overlay anymore, but we worked with what we had and brought these countertops back to life.

Considering where we started, we’re pretty happy with how they turned out!

Another one saved without tearing out the entire kitchen. 👍
