Older Wichita homes have incredible character, but they often come with outdated building designs, like built-in Yankee internal gutter systems. When these hidden troughs start to fail, water backs up directly into the roof framing and interior walls.

How we re-engineered this roof:

- Tore off the old layers, framed up the flat roof perimeter to bypass the old internal gutter system, and re-decked the entire substrate with fresh plywood/OSB.

- Installed double-coverage synthetic underlayment and high-durability Slate Gray rolled roofing on the flat section.

- Covered the main house in Class 4 Impact-Rated shingles, W-profile valley metal, ice and water shield, and continuous ridge ventilation.

- Wrapped the flat roof edge framing in white trim coil, retrofitted the chimney flashing, repaired damaged soffit, and installed fresh 5" white gutters with 3"x4" downspouts and aluminum gutter covers.

When replacing an older, weathered deck, the most critical work often happens right against the house.

Before we built anything new, we demoed the decaying deck and pulled back the exterior siding to repair a water-damaged band joist on the home’s framing. Once the house was structurally sound and resided in matching 7" Double Lap Greystone, we gave the backyard a total baseline reset:

Smart Drainage: Trenched and buried the sump discharge line in heavy-duty 3" PVC beneath the new footprint so watersheds safely away from the foundation.

The Foundation: Poured a custom, low-maintenance 4" concrete patio complete with integrated steps.

The Structure: Built a custom rough cedar pergola supported by heavy 6x6 posts, 2x6 framing, lattice shade, and sleek Simpson black accent hardware.

Structural integrity first, gorgeous finishes second. That’s the Pure State Construction standard.

Over time, older concrete pads can sink, crack, and settle. When that happens, heavy rainwater stops shedding toward the yard and starts pooling against your home's brick and foundation.

We gave this home a total outdoor baseline reset. We hacked out the cracked old patio, hauled away the debris, and established a fresh, perfectly graded sand base. We poured a beautiful 18' x 10' slab with a clean broom finish.

To keep the layout ultra-clean, we even modified the sewer cleanouts so they sit perfectly flush with the new surface. Now, the backyard is ready for summer grilling, and the foundation is completely protected.
