As we look back on an exciting year, one project that truly stands out is the 1861 Club at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

This remarkable space is much more than an event venue. With its soaring 30-foot wood ceilings, heavy timber framing, layered stone accents, expansive glass, and flexible layout, the 1861 Club was designed to be both striking and welcoming—whether hosting weddings, corporate gatherings, or special events throughout the year, or transforming into a climate-controlled dining and entertainment destination during the Kansas State Fair.

What makes this project especially meaningful is its purpose. The 1861 Club is operated by the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation, a nonprofit organization that reinvests funds raised through the venue back into improvements across the Fairgrounds. Those investments help preserve traditions, support agriculture and education, and enhance facilities used by thousands of Kansans each year for fairs, concerts, exhibitions, and community events.

We’re proud of our team’s role in bringing this vision to life. Projects like the 1861 Club remind us that construction isn’t just about buildings—it’s about creating spaces that strengthen communities, celebrate Kansas, and help make lasting memories for generations to come.

🏀 A Milestone Project for DSDC — The Refinery in Garden City Is Now Open!

We’re excited to share a look at The Refinery, a 200,000-square-foot sports and recreation complex that officially opened on November 21. This project represents the largest project our team has completed to date, and the finished facility is truly remarkable.

Inside, The Refinery offers six full basketball courts, an indoor turf arena, pickleball courts, an indoor walking track, team suites, a restaurant, arcade, convenience store, pro shop, and more — creating a regional destination for families, athletes, tournaments, and community events across western Kansas.

Our team is also continuing the momentum on Phase Two. We’re currently in progress on the Blue Sky of Kansas Restaurant, the sports bar connected to the complex. Exterior framing is complete, and our crew will be diving into the interior at the first of the year.

To everyone on our team who helped bring this vision to life, thank you. Your craftsmanship helps shape communities, not just buildings — and this project is a powerful example of that impact.

📚 Forsyth Library Renovation | Fort Hays State University

We’re excited to share a look at some recent progress and near-completion photos from the renovation of Forsyth Library at Fort Hays State University. Our team has been hard at work completing the commercial framing, drywall, and acoustical package for this transformative project.

Forsyth Library has long been considered the heart of campus — a place where students retreat to study, think, and grow. With this renovation, the space is being reimagined as a modern academic hub designed for the way students learn today. The updated library will offer brighter, more inviting study areas, increased access to technology, expanded group and individual study rooms, and a refreshed atmosphere that encourages collaboration as well as quiet focus.

The project also brings several student-focused programs under one roof, including the Honors College, MakerSpace, Writing Center, and the Institute for New Media Studies, creating a central destination for academic support. From improved natural light to updated amenities, every part of the renovation aims to elevate the student experience and reinforce the university’s commitment to learning, creativity, and community.

It’s been an honor for our team to contribute to a project that will impact FHSU students for generations. We’re proud of the craftsmanship that has brought these spaces to life, and we can’t wait to see the finished library become a vibrant part of campus once again.

We’re honored to serve as the General Contractor for the Sanctuary Addition in Maize, Kansas. The foundation concrete pour took place this week—another big step forward in bringing this incredible project to life.

Ark Church shared the moment with the perfect message: “Let’s Build This.” And that’s exactly what we’re doing—partnering together to help create a space that will support their vision, growth, and ministry for years to come.

We ended last week celebrating Todd on his 15-year work anniversary — a milestone we love to celebrate! Todd’s dedication, leadership, and expertise have been a huge part of our company’s growth and success over the years.

This month, we’re also recognizing other incredible milestones across our team:
Mike – 36 years, Gary – 16 years, Tomas – 12 years, Carlos – 7 years, and Alex – 5 years.

Exciting changes are underway at West Ridge Mall in Topeka! The property’s new owners are leading a large-scale redevelopment that will transform the former JCPenney and surrounding spaces into new corporate headquarters while also creating new opportunities for future retail, entertainment, and community spaces.

As part of these exciting updates, DSDC is proud to be performing the drywall work for the mall’s new elevator addition — a key feature that will improve accessibility and support the reimagined flow of visitors, employees, and shoppers throughout the property.

Our crews take pride in being part of projects that help breathe new life into familiar spaces and strengthen communities across Kansas. Every project, large or small, represents the skill and dedication of our team members who make it happen.

🏦 Framing Progress at Equity Bank – Great Bend, KS

Framing is well underway on the new Equity Bank prototype building in Great Bend! This two-story, 6,200-square-foot facility will consolidate two existing locations into one modern regional hub, offering teller space, offices, conference rooms, and advanced technology like Integrated Teller Machines and bilingual services. Scheduled for completion in March, the building represents a major investment in the community’s future.

We’re proud of our crew for the skill and dedication they bring to projects like this — turning blueprints into buildings that will serve families, businesses, and communities for decades. Every wall and ceiling put in place is part of a much bigger picture: strengthening local infrastructure and supporting growth across Kansas.

✨ Disability Supports of the Great Plains at The Clayworks – Hutchinson, KS ✨

As we shared in February, we had the privilege of working on the first floor of The Clayworks in 2018, a space dedicated to creativity, opportunity, and supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. Now, we’re back and excited to be helping bring new life to the basement level with renovations that will continue to support their incredible mission.

As we near completion, we absolutely love the way this space is coming to life! The new basement will provide even more room for local artists to express themselves, gain independence, and connect with the community. It’s amazing to see how our team’s work is helping to further The Clayworks’ mission of creating a place where people with special needs can thrive through art.

We’re proud to continue our partnership with such an inspiring organization, and we can’t wait to see the impact this new space will have on the community!

🚗 This morning's drive through Maize, KS had me feeling a bit sentimental. On the way to drop my son off at school (second to last day!), I passed by several projects that reminded me just how blessed we’ve been to work in this great community.

🏛 Maize City Building – Completed in 2021
🏢 Assemblies of God Kansas District Office – Completed in 2012
🥪 Barn’rds Restaurant – Completed in 2020 (Still home to the best roast beef sandwich around!)
🎨 Sherwin Williams – Completed in 2024, right next door to Barn’rds
🏭 Charlotte Pipe & Foundry – Currently making great progress on this exciting project

We’ve been fortunate to be a part of some incredible builds—not just in Maize, but all across the state of Kansas. It’s humbling and rewarding to see the impact our hardworking crew has had in shaping our local communities.

Exciting things are happening in Garden City, KS as we construct a brand-new Dream First Bank location! 💭💪

Our team is hard at work on the exterior framing and gyp sheathing, bringing this project to life from the ground up. This new facility will expand Dream First Bank’s presence in southwest Kansas, adding to their existing locations in Syracuse, Johnson, Ulysses, Hugoton, Elkhart, Attica, Arlington, and Rolla.

For over 100 years, Dream First Bank has helped individuals, businesses, and farmers achieve their biggest goals. Now, they’re expanding their operations to better serve the Garden City community—and we’re proud to be part of the team making it happen!
