This week at the Derby Water Treatment Plant construction site UCI poured 186 cubic yards of concrete for the raw pump station. This pour was 50 x 67 feet and the second of four slabs. Water will be piped to the raw water pump station from four different Derby wells.

👷 This week we're getting to know Pat Miller. Pat is a senior project manager and has been with UCI for over 42 years!

🌮 What's your favorite food or restaurant?
Tex-Mex

🎣 What do you like to do in your free time?
I love being outdoors. My favorite seasons are fall and winter due to the lack of insects and slithering reptiles. I enjoy the peacefulness of watching the morning come to life while hunting deer and waterfowl. Trout fishing in Arkansas is another favorite pastime.

🚤 Tell me about your family.
I've been married to my very loving wife Kelley for coming up on 38 years. Together we have three beautiful daughters with great spouses, two grandsons, and two granddaughters with another grandson due in September. We all truly enjoy our lake house, which has been in our family for more than 54 years. I grew up around the lake as a kid, as did my daughters. Both my brother and sister also have family lake houses that are just a quick four-minute boat ride away.

I enjoyed working in Idaho building two of the largest renewable natural gas plants in the world!

This morning we officially broke ground on the city of Derby's new water treatment plant! This $38 million project is an exciting new opportunity for UCI. We're thrilled to be working with Professional Engineering Consultants and Derby, Kansas City Hall on this project. Stay tuned for more updates as construction progresses!

Say hi to Courtney Chroeung! 👋 Courtney has been with UCI for nine years and works in workforce solutions.

🏖️ What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time at the pool with my kids. The water is very relaxing to me. I could spend hours there.

👷 What is your favorite part about working in the construction industry?
I love that our company is able to do large scale projects that benefit people and their communities. I am proud of the people we employ and the skill level of their craft.

💡 What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Who you become is your responsibility. Your decisions build your future. Protect your character and do hard things when no one is watching.

For the last year and a half UCI has been working as a subcontractor for Burns & McDonnell on the South Inola Wastewater Treatment Facility. UCI’s scope included the installation of all process equipment, all process piping, associated miscellaneous metals, and some yard piping.

UCI has installed over 500 linear feet of PVC air pipe, 530 linear feet of buried intrinsically heat traced tubing bundles, and dozens of pieces of process equipment. We also placed unique concrete shapes including 6’ tall cones, and 3’ tall trapezoids, and installed over 150 pieces of flanged ductile iron pipe and fittings.

The treatment facility will provide increased capacity and modernized infrastructure to the rural communities it serves and will also accommodate the residential and industrial growth the area is anticipated to see. The new greenfield site also includes ample space for planned future expansions.

The site is slated to be functional in September 2026.

This year I traveled to Cancun with my wife Cindy. We love the ocean and are already planning future trips.

I like the people I get to work with. I enjoy continually learning and seeing my coworkers learn, grow, and move up in the company.

👣 What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Keep moving forward and don't look back.
