This month, the skies will shine bright with the Full Cold Moon, a beautiful reminder of the power and tranquility of winter. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธโ„๏ธ

Known as the "Cold Moon" because it marks the long, cold nights of December, this full moon offers a moment to pause, reflect, and set intentions for the upcoming year. ๐ŸŒŸ Itโ€™s a perfect time to:

๐Ÿ”ฎ Reflect โ€“ Look back on the year, the lessons learned, and the growth you've experienced.
๐ŸŒฑ Release โ€“ Let go of anything that no longer serves you, making space for new beginnings.
๐ŸŒ™ Recharge โ€“ Take time to connect with yourself, your dreams, and your goals for the future.

As the last full moon of the year, it's a natural moment to shed whatโ€™s no longer needed and embrace the opportunities ahead. ๐ŸŒŸ Whether you're stargazing, meditating, or simply taking in the beauty of the night sky, let the Full Cold Moon inspire your next chapter. ๐ŸŒŒ

๐Ÿ‚โ„๏ธ Winter Lawn & Garden Prep: Keep Your Outdoors Healthy All Year Long! โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ‚

As the colder months approach, itโ€™s essential to prepare your lawn and garden for winter. Taking the right steps now can ensure your outdoor space thrives come spring. Here are a few winter prep tips!

๐ŸŒฑ 1. Aerate Your Lawn
Aerating helps improve air, water, and nutrient flow to the roots. This is especially important if your lawn is compacted from foot traffic. Aeration will also help alleviate the stress of winter and encourage a lush lawn come spring!

๐ŸŒพ 2. Rake and Clean Up Leaves
Fallen leaves may look pretty, but they can smother your grass and garden beds, preventing sunlight and air from reaching the soil. Be sure to rake up leaves and other debris to keep your lawn healthy during the winter months.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ 3. Trim Back Dead or Overgrown Plants
Cut back dead growth, weeds, and overgrown shrubs to prevent damage from ice and snow. This will also reduce the risk of pests and disease through the winter months.

๐ŸŒฟ 4. Fertilize Your Lawn
A fall fertilization will help your lawn store nutrients to stay healthy throughout the winter and jump-start growth in the spring. Be sure to use a fertilizer designed for cooler weather!

๐Ÿ’ง 5. Water Thoroughly
Before the frost sets in, give your lawn and garden a deep watering. This helps plants and grass prepare for winter dormancy by ensuring theyโ€™re well-hydrated going into the colder months.

๐ŸŒณ 6. Protect Tender Plants
Cover any sensitive plants with frost blankets or burlap to shield them from harsh winter temperatures. Adding mulch around the base of perennials can also protect roots from freezing.

๐Ÿงค 7. Store Garden Tools
Clean, sharpen, and store your gardening tools for the winter months. Proper care of your equipment will ensure theyโ€™re ready to go when the growing season returns!

Leaf color changes in autumn as temperatures drop and daylight decreases.
Chlorophyll, the green pigment, breaks down, revealing yellow and orange pigments (carotenoids), and red and purple pigments (anthocyanins) may also form, depending on the plant and conditions. This process helps trees prepare for winter by conserving energy, with a wonderful show to experience.

Happy Halloween! Do you have plans to properly discard your pumpkins?
Here's some eco-friendly ways to consider!

๐ŸŽƒ Composting: Pumpkins break down quickly and add nutrients to compost. Be sure to remove seeds first to avoid sprouting, then chop the pumpkin into smaller pieces to speed up decomposition.

๐ŸŽƒ Wildlife Feeders: Place pieces of pumpkin in your yard for local wildlife to snack on. Animals like squirrels, birds, and deer enjoy them. Just make sure your pumpkins are free of paint, glitter, or wax.

๐ŸŽƒ Soil Fertilizer: Bury pumpkin pieces directly in your garden beds. Theyโ€™ll decompose over winter, enriching the soil with organic matter by spring.

๐ŸŽƒ Natural Bird Feeder: Turn hollowed-out pumpkins into bird feeders by filling them with seeds. Hang or place them securely where birds can access them.

๐ŸŽƒ Seed Harvesting: If you removed the seeds, save some for roasting or drying, or plant them for a pumpkin patch next year. You can also feed seeds to birds (just avoid salted seeds).

๐ŸŽƒ Donation to Farms: Many local farms accept unpainted pumpkins as animal feed. Contact a nearby farm to see if theyโ€™re interested in taking them off your hands.

๐ŸŽƒ DIY Pumpkin Puree: For any uncarved pumpkins, make puree for soups, pies, or baking. Homemade pumpkin puree can be frozen and used later.

By reusing or composting pumpkins, you help reduce landfill waste and give back to nature!
