You can extend the life of the shingles on your roof by performing some basic maintenance. If the branches from trees around your home are hanging over and scraping the shingles, have them trimmed back to prevent damage.

If your home is on a slope, then a bi-level deck may be a good solution. This type of deck features two levels of different heights, usually with a transition of a step or two. This allows the building of the deck to be more flexible to accommodate the particulars of the landscape.

When planning your landscape, you may want to keep tall trees away from your house. Their falling leaves (or needles) can clog gutters. There are multiple benefits to keeping windblown leaves off your property as much as possible. Fall lawn cleanup will be easier, and you'll be providing a cleaner environment for your split HVAC system. Less debris means fewer problems with insects, too.

Did you know that some of the earliest gutters were actually wooden, made from old growth cedar? Later, new cedar and/or hemlock wood was used and was lined with zinc to help the gutter system last a little bit longer.
