🌊Ocean Blue 🌊

Holbein Artists’ Granulating Watercolors are designed to let pigment, water, and paper become part of the painting process. As a wash settles and dries, pigments of different characteristics separate and gather across the surface, creating shifts in color, texture, and pattern that can’t quite be duplicated with a conventional watercolor wash. The result is color with movement, perfect for atmospheric skies, water, landscapes, natural textures, or simply allowing granulation itself to become part of the composition.

Ocean Blue (WG531) combines warm yellow PY159 with Phthalo Blue PB15, creating a vibrant blue with subtle shifts of color as the pigments move and settle within the wash.

🖌️We are pleased to present Holbein Brand Ambassador Michelle Hunt. Michelle is an artist and illustrator based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her works span various media and techniques, though she primarily uses watercolor and ink.

Michelle graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration and is now a member of the Starlite Artist Collective, a group of artists who put on various shows and markets throughout western Michigan.

Michelle’s style is inspired by the feminine forms and organic lines of the Art Nouveau movement, as well as the story-driven subjects of myth and legend found in the art of the Pre-Raphaelites. Her subjects range from fantasy characters and creatures to witches and more occult imagery. She has been fascinated with fantasy, folklore, and legends her whole life, and the themes within these stories often creep into her artwork. Michelle is currently in the process of illustrating her own Tarot deck. She can usually be found in her studio, working on at least eight projects at once, or at home, tending to her collection of houseplants.

The prompt for Week 2 of the is "Pugs"! I had this cute thought that Frank the Pug from would likely have one of those portrait studio pictures on his wall at home. With lasers!

Big thanks to Tim from for the prompt at San Diego Comic Con! I had so much fun with this challenge. And yeah, Holbein paints are GREAT in an airbrush.

I can't wait for next week's painting! Let's keep this momentum going and get Ian's financial gap closed!

🦩Here is a lovely example of the expressive possibilities of Holbein Artists’ Granulating Watercolors. Bourke’s Parrot Pink is the primary color Maria Morjane used to create the vibrant flamingo artwork featured on the cover of the Flamingo Granulating Watercolor Set.

Part of Holbein’s collection of granulating sets of six, each set features original artwork by Holbein Brand Ambassador Maria Raczynska, inspired by the unique character and color relationships found within each palette.

Bourke’s Parrot Pink (WG501) is a three-pigment color made with PY159, BV10, and PR122. As the pigments separate and settle into the texture of the paper, they create unique variations and granulation that give this color its distinctive character.

🌸 Bourke’s Parrot Pink 🌸

Watch this color transform. Holbein Artists’ Granulating Watercolors are formulated with multiple pigments that separate and settle naturally on the paper. They can create subtle shifts in hue and intensity.

Inspired by the delicate plumage of the Bourke’s Parrot, this vibrant pink combines three pigments:

PY159 - Azo or Orange/Yellow

🍾Congratulations to our good friend and Holbein Featured Artist Robert Burridge who has won the Philadelphia Water Color Society’s award for “Use of Color” for his painting, “You Belong to Me, Over Here.” The award was given at the society’s 126th Anniversary International Works on Paper Exhibition. Bob is a Signature Member of this society and is also a Crest Medal Award recipient.
