Yes, they may look scary....
Most snakes found in American gardens should be left exactly where they are. Here is how to identify which ones and why. 🐍
🟢 Garter Snake — the most common garden snake in North America. Completely harmless, eats slugs, grubs, and insects. If you have a slug problem, a garter snake is the solution.
🟢 Black Rat Snake — large, shiny, sometimes alarming. One of the most effective rodent control animals available. A single rat snake eliminates mice and rat problems in a 1-acre area.
🟢 King Snake — the most valuable snake in any American yard. Immune to the venom of copperheads, rattlesnakes, and water moccasins — and actively hunts them.
🟢 Rough Green Snake — bright vivid green, completely harmless, eats caterpillars in your garden canopy.
🔴 Copperhead — distinctive hourglass pattern on copper-brown body. Venomous. Do not handle. Contact your local wildlife removal service.
🔴 Cottonmouth — thick dark body near water, opens mouth showing white interior when threatened. Venomous. Wildlife services only.
