Recently I reached out to a friend to share some sadness I was feeling in a personal situation. Right away my friend stated to give me advice as to what I should do. My feeling was that I was not received in my sadness as I was looking for love and compassion and not advice. It made me reflect on how I probably do the same with some people when they come to me as I try to problem solve their challenges instead of holding a space filled with love and compassion. Holding space for someone without judgment is a powerful thing as it allows them to heal.
