Once the leaves start dropping, most of the visible growing season looks like it's over -- but underground, it isn't.
NC State Extension notes that tree and shrub roots continue growing in the soil even after a plant has gone fully dormant above ground, and pick back up again as the soil warms the following spring. A tree or shrub planted this fall gets that whole stretch to establish roots before it has to face next summer's heat, which is exactly the head start a spring-planted tree doesn't get.
Our crews treat fall as a real planting window for that reason, not just a cleanup season. Call 302-598-9192 or visit yougowithigo.com to talk through adding trees or shrubs before the ground cools.
