A look back at what actually happened in the shop this month — a different kind of kitchen, a hand-laminated stove chimney cover, and a closet built around how someone actually gets dressed every morning.

Three real projects, three different rooms, the same approach: built around the space and the people actually living in it.

Follow along — more coming in October.

Frameless or face-frame — which cabinet construction is right for your kitchen?

Frameless cabinets attach doors directly to the box for a clean, modern look with maximum interior access. Face-frame cabinets add a visible frame across the front for a more traditional, furniture-like appearance, with hinges mounting to that frame instead of the box.

Neither one is the "better" choice — both can be built with the same high-quality materials, hardware, and craftsmanship. It really comes down to the look you want and how you'll use the space.

Not sure which is right for your space? Let's talk it through.

From a work-in-progress bench and bare framing to this — a finished window seat with storage drawers, flanked by built-in bookshelves on both sides, fully loaded and ready to live in.

A reading nook that didn't exist before, built into space that was already there.

A little planning avoids a lot of regret.

Some of the most common kitchen remodel mistakes aren't dramatic — they're things like not measuring accurately, skipping good lighting, undersizing ventilation, or focusing on price before considering construction quality. None of them show up until the project is finished and you're living with the result.

Save this before you start planning your own remodel.

From a brick fireplace and an unfinished doorway to this.

A painted mantel surround, a new insert, fully trimmed doorways, and matching wainscoting tie the whole room together. The kind of transformation that changes how a room feels to actually be in, not just how it looks in a photo.

A Shaker door looks simple, but the construction behind it is anything but careless.

Five pieces — two vertical stiles, two horizontal rails, and a center panel — come together into a frame that holds a floating panel, precision-fit to move naturally with humidity instead of cracking or warping over time. That restrained look is exactly why every joint, gap, and reveal has to be right — there's nowhere for a mistake to hide.

Read the full guide.

Key Takeaways A Shaker door looks simple, but its clean appearance depends on careful measurements, stable materials, accurate joinery, and patient finishing. Measure the opening, overlay, and clea…

Painted or stained — which do you lean toward?

Painted cabinetry offers a smooth, consistent finish in any color, easy touch-ups, and works with any style from modern to traditional. Stained cabinetry shows off the natural grain and warmth of real wood, and tends to hide daily wear a little more forgivingly.

Neither is "better" — it depends on your style, your existing finishes, and how you want the space to feel.

Painted or stained — which would you choose for your kitchen?

Another stage in this range hood build — still raw, still taking shape, before the layered wood surface you saw earlier this week gets its finish.

Every curved piece we build goes through steps like this — not glamorous on their own, but part of getting the final shape right.
