Protecting juniper and cedar trees is crucial, not just for the trees themselves, but for the entire ecosystem they support. These trees play a vital role in fostering biodiversity, offering shade, and nurturing other plants like madrones and oaks. By maintaining these natural communities, we're ensuring a healthier environment for all. While cedar trees can pose challenges for land stewards, they do serve ecological functions and we need to acknowledge those before we plan an intervention. Let's work together, with nature to preserve these essential ecosystems and keep our landscapes thriving by helping them move towards biodiversity! Follow us to get more details on how we do it and how you can too.

Boost your garden’s biodiversity with a plant guild! Planting native plants or well adapted non-invasives like Salvia greggii and Purple Heart around the base of your fruit trees attracts pollinators and provides natural mulch helping the soil stay cool and retain moisture. If you use a drip ring for irrigation (video coming soon) you can do this while keeping everything on the same irrigation line. A simple way to enhance your ecosystem, increase your yields and reduce your inputs!

Here's a simple trick to help you increase the success of your fruit tree plantings in Texas. Fruit trees are not pioneering species (well maybe jujubes are). They like to have some shelter, especially in the afternoon. Additionally, there's more soil, natural leaf mulch and shade for you if you plant your fruit trees on a drip line. When you water your fruit trees, you also water the existing oversotry, giving some love to your native oaks, pecans, etc. The mycellium is already established in these zones so you don't have to fight for fungal dominant soil. If you don't plant something there, something else is going to drow there and it might be pokey! The reasons to plant on drip lines does on and on!

At the very top of the watershed, cedar and ash juniper trees are nature's carbon engineers—condensing organic matter and sequestering carbon without using any external energy. But when these trees are bulldozed and burned, years of carbon storage (organic matter in the soil) and biodiversity are lost in an instant. We're showing alternative solutions to protect these ecosystems while ensuring long-term regeneration. Working with nature instead of against it! Check out the full youtube video by to leanr more -
