It's time for a huge round of applause for a gold star volunteer, Jon Aronson, with Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA)!

Jon and his family have spent HOURS up at Acorn Woman Lookout this summer, constructing a brand new deck on the lookout. This was now small feat--time and weather have taken their toll on this beloved building, and the entire foundational base needed attention before this new deck could be built. And just LOOK at how beautiful it is after fully replacing the structural sill beams and decking!!!

Thank you, FFLA and Jon, for your tireless service to care for these places that so many love!

The Gifford Pinchot National Forests has lifted the closure for the Skyo Fire on the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District. All roads, trailheads, and trails within the closure area are now open and accessible to the public. This includes Forest Road 4710 and associated spur roads.

The Skyo Fire was first reported on July 22 following a lightning storm. The fire remains 254 acres in size and is 100% contained. Additional growth is not expected. Although post‑fire suppression repair work is complete, visitors should use caution when entering the burn area. For tips on recreating in burned areas, please visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/recreation/safety-tips-burned-areas

As warm and dry weather continues, fire danger remains “moderate” across the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) remains at Level 1.

See the Forest’s fire restrictions page for more fire information: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/giffordpinchot/alerts/fire-restrictions

Using trees to protect trees? That’s Forest Products at work! We’re working with to use cellulose from trees to insulate fruit from late-season frost and ice as the fruit grows. Not only does it help protect fruit growers from economic losses, the cellulose is non-toxic and washes right off once the danger from the ice is past.
