Here is a kitchen backsplash installation we recently completed. I like the way it ties in the cabinets and countertops along with the floor. Somebody came in and made a comment that the kitchen looks totally different. The backsplash tile consists of 1/2”x 6” and 1”x6” put together as a mosaic. The mosaic consists of Italian bottochino and travertine, Spanish empredora marble and a “crazed” glass finish on ceramic tile.
Another job we completed was a floor repair for a married couple in their 80’s. Before we did the repair, the floor had been repaired with 2 tiles that did not even match. So the wife came up with the idea of making a rug (tile inlay) in the middle of her kitchen floor. When we did the layout with the “groovy lookin’ 8x8 tile, the grout joints where to big (1/2”). I came up with the idea of making a border around the inlay. She had some extra tile from the previous repair. This is the result of a little extra thought and will to get the job “done”. The wife was very happy and the husband was happy that the wife was happy. The dark spot in the photo is their dachshund doing her job. Protecting the hands that feed her.
The last set of photos is a tear out and remodel of a bathroom that had a black prefabricated shower enclosure that reminded me of the “black hole” recently discovered by scientists. It was dark and scary. The floor was a mixy-matchy combination of 3 colors. More mixy than matchy. It came with the house when they purchased it and lived with it approximately 15 years. Now they have what they want. The red paint is going also. I would like to see the finished project. The wife came up with the design. I wish I had “before “ photos to share to show you the transformation.
