Vintage Renovation and Construction, Inc. We perform historical restoration, preservation, and new construction, building to traditional and p We are specialists in traditional materials.

Our team performs historical restoration and preservation, building to traditional and time-proven standards of workmanship and material quality. We offer consulting, especially in troubleshooting issues that arise with old buildings, often due to incompatible, modern materials, or moisture issues. With this education in what worked and what didn't, our new construction mirrors the quality and det

ail of a different era. Through tenons as an example: quality construction is prevalent in our new work. When we walk away from a project, the line between what we did and the original is hard to discern. We thoroughly enjoy doing top to bottom renovation, re-creating spaces that feel right, with thought to size, color, and furnishings. The best projects allow us to start over; when clients throw us the keys. I love what I do, and our team shares this passion. We have a workshop in Wi******er, VA, specializing in architectural millwork, cabinetry, and windows. We have architectural contacts in Italy, England, Scotland, as well as technical support. We accept furniture and millwork commissions. We take special care with antique restoration, treating fine antiques conservatively; performing honest restoration. We particularly enjoy complex projects, and troubleshooting, and will consider travel. We will travel from North America to the EU, in a west to east direction, or east to west.

We painted this door with Viking linseed oil paint 10 years ago. We made the doors in our shop, and painted them with the red oxide color. (We did not paint the white - that is conventional ‘plastic’ paint.) Not only does the red door still look beautiful but the wood is still protected from the elements and only needs minimal cleaning with linseed oil soap. I’ve just finished cleaning the two right boards and applied some raw linseed oil to bring back the paint sheen. There is absolutely no peeling ,and these doors have been neglected in an uninhabited house since. Linseed oil paint, while a bit more technical to use, is far superior to conventional petrochemical paints. We use Ottosson typically, and there are other good companies making the same - Braun, Viking, and Allback are all excellent.

In words, our focus is on old buildings and top quality millwork. Our company is comprised of our field team at Vintage Building, supported by our talented cabinetmakers back at the Vintage Workshop in Wi******er, VA. The workshop produces authentic, top tier millwork to support our field team in a timely and accurate manner.

We work in houses, churches, museums, mills, barns…as long as it is old we get involved in all aspects of renovation and historic preservation. Our days are varied. We are involved in all of the steps of construction for quality reasons — from the framing to the cabinet setting, and everything in between. Good craftspeople are thinking about the finish trim even as they are working on the framing of a building. We begin with the end in mind and work to create historically accurate, beautiful results.
