Pay attention to the little things.

You don’t always need a huge landscaping project to make a property look better.

Mulch Isn’t Just for Looks 🍂

Mulch can make a landscape look finished, but it also serves a purpose.

A properly maintained mulch bed can help:
🌱 Reduce w**ds
💧 Hold moisture in the soil
🌡️ Moderate soil temperatures
🌿 Give planting beds a cleaner appearance

Just remember not to pile mulch directly against tree trunks.

That “volcano” of mulch around a tree isn’t doing it any favors.

Here’s a simple landscaping tip

Don’t overcrowd your plants when they’re small.

It’s easy to look at a little shrub or perennial and think, “I can fit another one in there.”

But remember it’s going to grow.

Give plants the room they need to reach their mature size and your landscape will look much better as it fills in.

Native Plants 🌿

There’s a reason native plants are becoming more popular.

They’re naturally suited to the conditions found here in Pennsylvania and can be a great addition to a landscape.

Right Plant, Right Place 🌱

One of the biggest landscaping mistakes is putting the right plant in the WRONG spot.

A plant might look great at the garden center, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to love your yard.

Before planting, look at:
☀️ How much sun it gets
💧 How wet the soil stays
🌱 What type of soil you have
📏 How big the plant will eventually get
🦌 Whether deer are a problem

A little planning now can save a lot of work later.

If you live around here, chances are you’ve dealt with deer eating your landscaping.

There are quite a few plants that deer tend to avoid or browse less often.

Some options to look into:

🌿 Spicebush
🌸 Coral Bells
🌼 Black-Eyed Susan
🌿 Christmas Fern
🌸 Columbine

Nothing is completely deer-proof, especially when food is scarce, but choosing less-preferred plants can help.
