Improperly installed shingles of Winston-Salem, NC

1. Common to see this installation method used by roofers who are unfamiliar with installing laminated shingles. Racking shingle installation or off setting the shingles will most likely result in leaks, since most of the nails are within 6 inch's of the seam of the neighboring shingle. This is popular with three tab shingles. And with installers who believe that shingles just need nails, not a proper layout.

2. Shingle overhang - here you see a shingle overhang that is roughly 2 inches. The gutter is 5 inches. Resulting in overflowing water over the gutter in medium to hard downpours of rain. It's important to make sure that your roofer has the proper overhang of shingle installing your roof. It may sound simple, but it takes a little bit more math whenever you're working in quarter inches and half inches then 2 inches. If you see that your shingle is dipping into your gutter chances are that you have much larger overhang than the manufacturer recommends. This will create a lack of performance of your shingle and shorten the life of that first row of shingles.
