This job threw everything at me.
Four separate tooth-breaking events. Seven broken tooth mounts total on the mulching drum. A ripped off hydraulic line. Glacial boulders hidden under the blackberry that you don’t find until the machine finds them for you. Had to swap out the mulching head entirely to keep moving.
Two days. Job done. Happy customer.
That’s the part people don’t see in the before and after photos. Land clearing with heavy equipment will humble you fast. Rocks don’t care about your schedule. Teeth don’t warn you before they go. And a blown hydraulic line in the middle of a dense stand of blackberry and alder is just Tuesday.
What separates operators is what happens after things break. You diagnose it. You have a plan B. You carry spare parts, a welder on the trailer, and the right contacts to get replacement equipment when you need it. You keep the customer informed and you finish what you started.
If you’re shopping for a land clearing contractor, ask them what happens when something breaks on your job. The answer tells you everything.
