Here is a video of our crew relining a sand silo at a foundry in July. Man, this was a hot one, with temperatures outside of nearly 100 degrees! Safety is always of the utmost importance, so staying hydrated and getting good rest between working days was pivotal.

Relining a sand silo in a foundry is the process of replacing the worn-out protective interior skin of a massive storage tower that holds mold-making sand. In a metal-casting foundry, heavy, abrasive sand is constantly loaded into and pulled out of these silos, causing intense friction that scrapes and thins the inner walls over time.
To prevent the structural metal of the tower from wearing away, rusting, or leaking, workers must completely empty and clean the silo to inspect it for structural damage. We installed a fresh, durable barrier by welding new steel plates.

This maintenance keeps the silo structurally sound, prevents dangerous wall collapses, and ensures the sand remains clean and free of rust contamination for the metal-casting process.

Check out the video for a recent shutdown we had at a foundry right here in Wisconsin. We swapped out the old for the new, which helped our customer achieve efficiency in 3 main areas:

1. Cut down on maintenance costs. The new equipment is designed for durability, which substantially reduces maintenance requirements and costs.

2. Lower energy consumption. Efficiency in processing speeds things up, while lowering energy costs at the same time.

3. Maintain a safe workplace. Foundries are notorious for air-borne silica dust. The new equipment helps comply with industry regulations and provides a safer work environment for all.

Summer is heating up, and we're putting the pedal to the metal! We have a lot of big projects coming up and the guys have been gearing up in the shop to make sure we stay on schedule to deliver our promises to clients on-time and with expert craftsmanship!

Check out some of the Fuller Mechanical crew putting in some serious work up in Phillips, WI! We headed north to tackle a heavy-duty truck dump dismantle, and it was a solid day of precision and power. The guys broke out the Air Arc to slice through those stubborn, thick-gauge weldments, making short work of the structural steel.

Once the cutting was done, we used some high-level rigging to make sure every section was locked down and balanced before the crane moved in. It was a smooth operation watching the crane hoist the structure clear from its original footprint and swing it over to the staging area. We got everything set down perfectly, prepped and ready to be hauled away. Not to mention, we had beautiful weather all week!
