Freezing temperatures on the way!

Some helpful tips that can help you prevent plumbing disasters.

If you haven't already, shut off your outside faucets. Do so now and make sure the hoses are disconnected as well.

Do not turn your heat down too low. The extra cost of fuel will be minimal compared to the damages caused by frozen & burst pipes.

Leave your cabinet doors under the kitchen & bathroom sinks open to let the warm air flow inside.

You may want to keep your faucets dripping slightly to keep the water flowing and from freezing.

Know where your water shut offs are. Main shut offs are where the water meters are located, usually at the front of the house in the basement. In case your pipes do freeze, you can shut down the water to prevent further damage.

If you have baseboard heat, move furniture or any obstructions away from the baseboard heat so air may flow through the elements & heat up the room.

Do not use a gas stove to heat your house. Dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide can build up & be lethal.

If you use space heaters, make sure you follow manufacturer’s user guide. Do not place near curtains or other flammable materials. Make sure your heater has a kill switch in case it is accidentally knocked over. If you don't have the manufacturer’s instructions, you can always look them up online.

Most programmable thermostats run on batteries. Make sure you have a fresh set of batteries on hand just in case.

If your pipes do freeze, never use an open flame to defrost them. Call us instead.

Good luck everybody, stay warm!

Our area received its first significant snowfall with more on the way. Remember to check your heating & hot water systems exhaust & air intake to make sure they are clear of snow. They are usually located on the outside wall where the equipment is located. There should also be a yellow sign stating "Gas Vent Directly Below, Keep Clear of All Obstructions". You should always know where these vents & intakes are so you can periodically check them. If you ever need assistance, please give us a call at 617-354-4545.

Prime Plumbing LLC wishes to ensure our customers that we have continuity plans in place to deliver uninterrupted service & support to customers as we navigate the uncertainty of COVID-19.

As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and the most recent “Shelter in Place Order” by Governor Baker, we wanted you to know that we are continuing to provide our services in a safe and professional manner.

To protect our customers and our employees, we may ask some additional questions when you call us so we will best understand how to equip our technicians to protect your health and safety as well as theirs.

We have required all of our employees to notify us if they are sick or show any signs of COVID-19, to seek medical attention and not to come to work until cleared to do so.

In return we want to be careful not to expose our essential workforce to any type of pathogens, and so we ask that you inform us if anyone in your home is sick or medically compromised. This way we can determine the best course of action and/or what type of protective gear to be appropriate.

Unfortunately, we are not properly equipped to enter a home where a patient is medically quarantined at this time, nor a home where a customer is self-quarantined due to being notified that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.

We will continue to provide our services between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday with possible restricted or limited emergency services after hours and on weekends. We will continue to provide 24/7 service to commercial clients that are essential businesses during the “Shelter in Place” order.

Our pledge to you – Our Technicians will:

• Wear a new set of protective gloves for every job.
• Shoe covers will be worn on every job.
• Protective masks will be worn upon request or where applicable and when available.
• Our work truck cab and hand tools will be cleaned and sanitized frequently each day, as required.
• To practice Social Distancing and minimal intrusion into your home or place of business, we have asked our technicians to not shake hands or have any direct contact with anyone while at your home, and to keep the recommended distance at all times, when possible. We also ask you to return the favor.

We thank you for your continued patronage and understanding during these uncertain times.

Take care and be aware!

End of Summer Plumbing Tips

During the summer months your plumbing systems are under more duress than any other time of year. Below are a few end of summer plumbing tips to make sure your plumbing systems are running as they should be.

• Have your sewer lines inspected for roots. Trees and other plants roots grow quickly during the summer months and can cause leaks that can be destructive. Now is the best time to inspect for any damage to your sewer lines, before the cold weather arrives.

• Inspect any outside taps & hoses for leaks. Also, make sure your spigot turns off all the way without dripping to make sure you aren’t wasting water.

• Check any exterior drains and remove any debris that may cause clogging.

• Check your appliances. Appliances use more energy during the summer months which leads to more wear & tear on your plumbing systems. Check all attachments to make sure there are no cracks or leaks that could expand quickly once the cold weather arrives.

• Schedule annual preventative maintenance for your heating system. Preparing for the cold months now will ensure your furnace or boiler is ready for the winter & prevent it from a break down mid-season.

If you need help with any of your plumbing maintenance, please give us a call. We are happy to help you with all of your plumbing & heating needs.
