Happy Summer everyone. As the temps start to warm up and we really get into the growing season I thought I'd post a little something about xeriscape. A lot of folks out there have the misconception that xeriscape landscapes consist of nothing but barren gravel and rock, which isn't a very appealing idea as the sun beats down on us.
That visual, however, couldn't be further from the truth.
The attached photos are of my personal garden which is very lush, and very xeric. On average I water this garden maybe 3 or 4 times per season. The soil is not amended and I have never fertilized.
The primary key to the success of this garden is PLANT SELECTION. I also use rocks and pea gravel mulch to retain what little natural moisture we do get and to create a happy environment for the most important part of any plant, the roots.
If anyone is looking to save water and have a lovely landscape please do not write off xeriscape as an option. It takes time and some investment but it is worth it!

The Dahlias are looking so amazing this year that I just had to post some photos. Nighttime temps are still a smidge chilly so they're staying in the greenhouse for one more week.

Sperry Ventures is hiring Garden Maintenance Crew members for our 2023 summer season!
$20-$23 per hour DOE.
Garden Maintenance duties includes but are not limited to:
-weeding
-deadheading
-pots and boxes maintenance
-fertilizing garden beds and containers
-amending soil
-planting

If you don't have experience, no worries! We're able to train anyone with a level head and decent work ethic.
This is a great job for anyone looking to spend their days outside in some of the prettiest places in the valley.
We generally work Mon-Thurs, 7am-5pm with overtime available on weekends. Schedule is dependent on weather. Full time starts May 1st but we'll start getting out in the gardens earlier if the snow melts... (it's an outdoor job, we're subject to all the fun variables Mother Nature decides to throw at us).
