Good morning, Riverbend!

We’ve been just a wee bit quiet lately as we continue working with all the wonderful doctors and nurses at Barnes to bring my husband home safely.
For those of you who don’t know, his lungs were damaged in 2021 from a long and hard battle with Covid, which leaves him vulnerable to some very unusual issues. Since Sept 12th he has been battling a potentially fatal infection called aspergillosis. For now it seems like he’s stable, but that can change so quickly! Prayers are very much appreciated!

Now about our bakery…

Our storefront continues to remain closed for standard hours, but we do try to keep some slices on hand. I am at the bakery every day working on orders, so you are very welcome to stop by anytime you see my black Nissan sitting out front! Don’t be alarmed when you walk in to empty cases, though! All of our delicious treats are being kept safely contained in the back refrigerators and freezers right now.

As for Thanksgiving… it’s coming up quick! We have so much to be thankful for, that I couldn’t think of letting it slip quietly by! We are serving up the same beautiful centerpiece desserts we always have in the past, including our exclusive Thanksgiving Day Cheesecake Samplers! This year our sampler will include two slices of each of these flavors:

Pumpkin
Maple Brown Butter
Turtle
Cinnamon Roll
Salted Caramel
Pecan Pie

Each sampler is a full 10” cheesecake for only $55.

Other options include mini or standard cheesecake cupcakes
for $30
Cookie and brownie trays for $25
Cupcakes, cakes, and more!

All desserts will need to be ordered this year. I cannot guarantee we will have anything to purchase otherwise. Please text at 618-401-0310 or message me through messenger before November 8th to order. And please have patience with replies. I’m a little slow at it right now. Orders are confirmed when we have discussed a date for pick up and I tell you I will see you then.

I appreciate you all so much! Thank you for your continued patience, your kindness, your prayers, and for continuing to support our little bakery through this unusual season of life. ❤️

Some cakes are celebrations. Some are stories. And some are love, grief, and remembrance made visible.

This cake was designed with that theme in mind - love, loss, heartache, and the fact that the spirit transcends life and death.

I painted Van Gogh’s night sky in buttercream, letting it move from tier to tier, but there was one detail I wanted to mean something more.

Van Gogh’s painted sunflowers begin near the bottom of the cake. Then, little by little, they become three-dimensional. And finally, they become flowers themselves, winding upward around the cake toward the moon and the stars.

I wanted them to feel as though they were lifting from the painting and rising toward the heavens—a quiet reminder that although a life can leave this earth far too soon, a spirit does not simply disappear.

And neither does our love for those who have moved on.

It changes. It aches. It carries memories where moments used to be. But it remains—woven through every sunflower, every moonlit night, every beautiful thing that brings them rushing back into our hearts.

This was never just a Starry Night cake.

It was love and a life, and a spirit that rises among the sunflowers into the starry night.

As you have probably heard by now, our storefront has been closed so I can care for my husband who is in the hospital.

He was transferred to Barnes in St Louis last weekend and it looks like he will be there for at least another month or so. I told you in the last post that he has ILD. He has dealt with that since 2021 when he was on a ventilator for 45 days with Covid. It did some damage to his lungs and liver. With his damaged lungs, right now he is dealing with aspergillosis. It is a very long road to recovery. He will need treatment for at least 6 months, although we hope he won’t be in the hospital that long.
Family and people will always be my first priority. I love you guys, but I would never forgive myself if I prioritized work first and something happened.
Right now, the store front will remain closed.

YOU CAN STILL HAVE OUR DESSERTS!

If my black car is at the bakery - please stop in! We are keeping a small amount of items available for walk ins.
If you’re coming from a distance - call me! We can arrange a time to meet.
Above all - if you want something special - order it! We are still taking orders and making things every day! I would really appreciate a little extra heads up right now, if possible, but I’m pretty good at working things out if you need a quick dessert too!

Thank you all, so much, for your continued patience, support, and prayers as we work through this. ❤️

So it’s been a bit of a tough month, and I’m so sorry for the messy hours!
Just to fill y’all in on what’s been going on… my husband has Interstitial Lung Disease, among other issues brought on from a hard battle with Covid in 2021. He’s on oxygen regularly, and was admitted into the hospital with respiratory issues on Sept 12th. Since then he has continued to decline, despite having a wonderful team of doctors and nurses at his side. At this point they are talking about transferring him to Barnes Jewish for more in depth care.

We are still taking care and taking on orders, but have remained closed for walk ins to allow me the ability to go back and forth as needed. I’m hoping to be open this Saturday from 12-4 pm, but definitely check for a confirmation before heading this way.

As always, all orders will be taken care of. In times we have to close, I’m always happy to schedule a pick up time to make sure you get your treats.

Thank you all for the continued support and prayers. “This too shall pass.”

A little update from The Cheesecake Lady ❤️

We’ve made the decision to keep the bakery storefront closed this week.

Between an unexpected family medical situation and several members of our little bakery family being unavailable, I simply don’t have the hands needed to properly operate the storefront while also taking care of my family and fulfilling the orders already on our books.

If you already have an order scheduled with us this week, don’t worry — your order is still being made! We will be reaching out as needed regarding pickup times and details.

For everyone else, we’re just asking for a little grace while we take this week to focus on family, our existing commitments, and getting everyone back where they need to be.

Sometimes being a small business means knowing when you simply can’t do everything at once — and this is one of those weeks.

Thank you, as always, for understanding and for supporting our little bakery. We’ll keep you updated and look forward to seeing you again soon. ❤️

I’m so sorry, guys! I spoke too soon for regular hours…. And for the Alaska flights. One of them didn’t turn out and the boxes I ordered are faulty.

Staff issues and personal emergencies has also caused a huge rift in our productivity this week so we will have to remain closed today. Hopefully next week will be more on target.

We love you all and thank you so much for your patience with us as we deal with all this craziness.

As always any orders (except the Alaska collection preorders) will be ready as scheduled.

We are back! Normal hours resumed.

Good morning, Illinois! As some of you have already discovered- WE ARE BACK!

And we brought something special with us….

Throughout our vacation I searched every spot for unique local flavors; flavors inspired by the misty mountains, lush evergreen forests, wild florals and berries, and the peace and serenity of Alaska.

And now, you can experience our beautiful adventure for yourself through your tastebuds.

This Saturday, The Alaska Collection arrives.

Four Cheesecake Petites inspired by the wild, beautiful flavors we discovered along the way

🫐 Wild Blueberry & Spruce Tip
Lush wild blueberry meets the fresh, aromatic whisper of spruce — bright, subtly woodsy and beautifully unexpected.

🌸 Cherry Fireweed Honey
Silky cherry-kissed cheesecake finished with golden Alaskan fireweed honey — delicate, floral and softly sweet.

🔥 Baked Alaska
Vanilla cheesecake swirled with tart raspberry and buttery streusel beneath a cloud of toasted marshmallow.

🥃 Duck Fart
Decadent layers of Kahlúa and Baileys cheesecake over chocolate crust, finished with a slow drizzle of Canadian wh**ky caramel, reminiscent of Alaska’s most popular drink.

We missed September’s first Friday cheesecake flights, but for good reason. This collection is a little more exotic, a bit of luxury, and a piece of adventure.

A little taste of Alaska, brought home for you.

Available for only $28 this Saturday while supplies last.

Tuesday was my absolute favorite out of all of our port days! We docked at Icy Strait Point just outside the tiny village of Hoonah. This town was once the home of a large salmon cannery and the Tlingit native tribe. The tribe is still a part of the livelihood there to this day.
It felt so different than the other ports - slower, less touristy, and more comforting.
Immediately upon entering the village, smells of smoked fish, evergreen, and the sea wafted through the brisk autumn air creating a sense of peace and calm that dug deep into my soul and consumed every part of my being. It carried me to a place within myself that I had long since forgotten where the ticking of clocks was drowned out by the rustling of leaves and the sounds of joy, laughter, and family; where beauty was all around me like a sanctuary of peace and an open door for clear thinking.

It stuck with me… and I can’t let it go. Somehow… I have to bring that feeling, that moment home with me and live within it.

I have a special cheesecake flavor in mind that will hopefully bring you close to what I felt in the little village of Hoonah. (Don’t worry - it’s not the crabby Bloody Mary, although that was an experience all on its own!) Think fresh, cool, mildly citrusy with the subtlest hint of forest lingering on your tongue, then pair it with a gentle splash of woodland berry and a drizzle of sweet wildflower honey.
