When studying for an Oregon Electrical Exam, it is important to not try to memorize or “know” the code. Instead, it’s essential that you are learning to find the right keyword, and then look it up. The keyword is most often NOT the main idea, or concept. Instead, it’s a specific unusual word, or even in the answers. Take a good look at the annex D 5 a Multifamily Dwelling on 208/120 Y - specifically the 10 ranges. It’s a hard problem to fathom unless you draw a picture and look at the pieces separately.

For example:

To find the max # between phases divide 10/3 and round up to next whole number = 4 If you want to check it out - you can make a table that looks at the two legs together AB , BC, AC put the number of range on each consecutively.

So then in the text preceding the table for household ranged 220.55 it says take the max on any 2 phases 4 x 2 = 8 — now look up the value in Table for 8 ranges less than 12 KW in column C. This is a KW/KVA value. Not a percent.

23,000 VA is listed. But wait - they go on to show you dividing by 2 and multiplying by 3 ??!!
—-Per phase demand = 23,000 VA ÷ 2 = 11,500 VA ( one leg)

3-phase load 11500 x 3 = 34,500 VA

So this seems unusual - new, though has been a point of interest for years in the Oregon Supervisor Exams.

It might be clearer to think about how a single phase ( two pole/leg) load on a Three phase load center - doesn’t use one leg/line/pole. Say a 100 amp load at 208V. It would be 20800VA. But only represents 10400 on a leg. If I forget this and divide 20800 by 360.26V(208 * 1.732) = 58 Amps. When we know that it’s 100 amps!! So watch out for this error in your feeder calcs.
