It’s with a heavy (slightly rusty) heart that we announce the retirement of a legend…
Our OG.
The truck that made Mass Landscaping & Snow official.
The one. The only.
The White F-350 “5.4 Dumpy.”
She was purchased with nothing but a vision, some hope… and not enough money in the bank.
She taught me how to:
• Drive a dually without hopping curbs (eventually)
• Tow bigger trailers
• Plow like a pro in blizzards
• Salt throughout the long winter nights
• And haul mulch, soil, and stone… most of the time slightly overloaded.
When she arrived, she was shiny white with minimal rust.
After a few New England winters pushing snow and spreading salt?
Let’s just say… she got “crispy.”
First the shine faded.
Then the cab corners bubbled.
Then the cab corners disappeared.
Rockers? Gone.
Dump bed? Ventilated.
Front end? Rebuilt.
U-joints? Retired.
Calipers? Rusted into modern art.
Even the rims said “I’m out.”
We had our moments:
• Blew a brake line going down Pleasant St while towing the skid.
• Got rear-ended during the Ice Storm of 2022.
• Slid down Chester St like we were in the Winter Olympics.
• Countless storms, breakdowns, and “well… that doesn’t sound good.”
But every single time… she fought through it.
Heat cranking in the winter.
AC blasting in the summer.
Crank windows. Manual locks.
No fancy screens. No backup camera, no electronics. Just vibes.
Late last night (technically early this morning), she suffered her final battle — catastrophic wheel assembly failure. Hub, bearing, lock hub, caliper, rotor, ball joint… all went out in dramatic fashion.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered a cracked frame.
And yet…
She still limped 2 miles to the nearest shop under her own power.
A true warrior to the very end.
She’ll take one final ride on a tow bed — not to continue as a whole work truck, but to donate her still-strong heart (engine), transmission, and parts to keep others alive.
Even in retirement… she’s still working.
Mass Landscaping & Snow wouldn’t be what it is today without this truck. She took us from “a guy with a plow” to a legitimate company.
May her memory be eternal.
Rest easy, White 5.4 Dumpy. 💔
