It might not surprise you to see a young man like this working on the construction site of GC’s new athletic facility. What will surprise you is the fact that he just graduated from GC in May. In fact, he is already making a good living and receiving very high praises from the boss.

Matthew Boggs (pictured right) is only 18 years old – the day after graduating he began to earn what many adults work years toward making. It turns out that he’s already years ahead of the average graduate, and his jobsite boss will be the first to tell you.

“Matthew is at least 3 years ahead of anybody who’d walk in off the street… he’s phenomenal,” said project superintendent Steve Warnock (pictured left). Warnock, a GC graduate himself, had great pride as he went on about Matthew. “This young man is the poster child for utilizing the opportunities given to them… and GC has provided him with great opportunities,” he said.

In fact, Matthew has run with the opportunities that are available to students at GC. Matthew, who was known as a very hardworking student as well as baseball player, entered into our electricity classes his sophomore year. He applied that same work ethic to 3 years of electricity classes under instructor Clay Couch. By the end of his senior year, he was already getting jobsite experience and an offer of employment.

“I feel lucky to have the opportunities I’ve had… you don’t see these opportunities just anywhere,” Matthew said. He then made it a point to give thanks to his electricity instructor, Clay Couch. “Mr. Couch was a great teacher and a great guy to be around,” he said.

Matthew went on to advise any young Musketeer to take advantage of the opportunities GC provides. As we tell all of our students – take advantage of our college credit classes, career pathway courses, or both! Doing so puts our students at an advantage the day they graduate. As 2024 graduate Matthew Boggs is proving – it truly does pay off.
