If you have a Birch Tree with dead tips/branches I'd suggest reading this leaflet from the forest service. I'll paste the link at the bottom of the post.

Essentially if your Birch is just starting to
Show signs of decline it's worth trying to save. If it's in stage 4 or 5 then it's too far gone and should be removed. Borers can and will fly to neighboring Birches.

We can help you with either option but it'd be a good idea to do it before May. In May the dormant borers will start to wake up and will be drawn to any cuts or compromised trees. So it's a better idea to work on Birches in the winter.

Here's the link to the leaflet:https://www.fs.usda.gov/foresthealth/docs/fidls/FIDL-111-BronzeBirchBorer.pdf

I walk you through the thought process on this risky move.
When dealing with dead trees on a timeline you have to get creative.

Cutting some arbs down away from the comm/cable lines above them.

We've been trying a few different methods for getting the tops as straight as possible. So far my favorite is to spray a guide line to give the customer a visual and for us to reference as we're working.

Probably need to get a more easily washable paint since there's almost always paint left standing.

English privet trimming. The before and after pictures help us to see the difference we've made. Sometimes we forget what it started out as when we're 3-4 hours into a project.

Got a call about some Aspen Trees that were at risk of falling on the neighbors driveway/garage. Apparently one had already fallen but the damage was minimal.

We swung by real quick to get them safely on the ground. The whole grove of Aspen ended up being dropped/pulled away from the neighbors side.

Removed a large sycamore, aka Western Plane or Platanus occidentalis, from this backyard recently.

Pieced it out bit by bit, chipped up the brush, hauled away the wood and ground out the stump!

Not sure if I ever posted this one. Pruned up an Elm over this farmhouse last summer.

End weight reduction over structure, removing large deadwood and some light structure pruning really freshened things up.
