Most homeowners don't think about their sump pump until there's standing water in the basement. By then, it's too late.

Here's a 60-second test: pour a bucket of water into the pit. The pump should kick on automatically and drain it fast. Hesitation, strange sounds, or no response at all? Time to call.

Most sump pumps last 7–10 years. If yours is getting up there - don't wait for a June rainstorm to find out.

Central Mechanical Services installs, repairs, and replaces sump pumps across Yakima and Kittitas Counties. Licensed, upfront pricing, same-day service when available.

FAQ: Do I really need a water softener in Central Washington?

Short answer: Yes - and here's why.

Central Washington has some of the hardest water in the state. That mineral buildup doesn't just show up on your dishes and shower doors - it's quietly working against every water-using appliance in your home.

Hard water causes:
- Scale buildup inside water heaters, reducing efficiency and lifespan
- Increased wear on dishwashers and washing machines
- Higher soap and detergent usage
- Dry skin and hair after showers

A properly sized water softener installed by our licensed technicians can extend the life of your appliances, lower energy bills, and make a noticeable difference in your daily water quality.

We install and maintain water softeners specifically designed for our region's water conditions.

We've heard that one before. 😅

Despite what the package says, "flushable" wipes are one of the most common causes of clogged drains and sewer backups. If you're dealing with frequent backups, slow drains, or plumbing issues, wipes could be the culprit.

Save yourself the headache—and the plumbing bill. When in doubt, throw it out.

Thinking about a bathroom remodel this summer?

Before the tile goes down, the vanity goes in, or the new fixtures get picked out - your plumbing needs to be part of the plan from day one.

Here's what most remodelers overlook:
Existing supply lines may not support new fixture locations. Older homes often have galvanized pipes that should be addressed during a remodel rather than patched around. Drain placement for a new layout requires rough-in work that has to happen before flooring.

Getting the plumbing right the first time means your finished bathroom looks and functions the way it should - without ripping anything apart six months later.

Central Mechanical Services works alongside homeowners and contractors on remodels throughout Central Washington. From the rough-in to the final connection, we handle it all.

Planning a remodel? Get us in early. Call (509) 248-5944 or visit centralmechanicalservices.org
Licensed, reliable, no surprises.

Summer is almost here - and that means more showers, more laundry, more dishes, and more demand on your plumbing than almost any other time of year.

Before the heat hits, here's a quick summer-ready check:
- Is your water pressure consistent throughout the house?
- Any slow drains in the kitchen or bathrooms?
- When did your water heater last get serviced?
- Do you have a sump pump - and have you tested it recently?

Small issues now become big problems when your system is running at full capacity. At Central Mechanical Services, our licensed technicians can check everything in one visit - upfront pricing, no surprises.

We've been keeping Central Washington homes running smoothly for over 100 years. Let's make sure yours is ready.

5 things every busy homeowner should know about their plumbing - but probably doesn't.

1. Where your main shut-off valve is. In a leak emergency, every second counts. Know before you need it.

2. How old your water heater is. Check the serial number. Most tank units last 10–12 years. If yours is close, plan ahead.

3. What your water pressure should be. Ideal residential pressure is typically 40–80 PSI. Too high, and you're stressing every fixture in your home.

4. That slow drains rarely fix themselves. They get worse. A partial clog today is a full backup next month.

5. That licensed plumbers pull permits for a reason. Unpermitted work can affect your homeowner's insurance and home resale value.

Central Mechanical Services has been helping homeowners stay ahead of problems for over 100 years. Schedule your annual inspection and cross it off the list.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the heroes who gave everything in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to live, work, raise families, and build communities with the freedoms we often take for granted each day.

Today, we honor those who never made it home and the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

From all of us at Central Mechanical Services, thank you to the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our nation. We remember you today and always.
