But first, coffee..

We love coffee. Its rich aroma is one of my favorite parts of each morning. We also love collecting and using a variety of mugs. So we have a coffee station upstairs for the morning brew and one in the office for the afternoon pick-me-up (or early morning tea).

These timeless wooden coffee racks are a beautiful, simple way to display mugs and keep them handy and out of the way. The first one pictured (6 hooks) is made of red oak and the second (8 hooks) is mahogany. The shelves are attached with dowels to make sure they're very sturdy and capable of holding a reasonably heavy shelf load. They're finished with three coats of poly to last and look great for many years.

Send me a message if you're interested in a coffee rack. I can build them to the size you need.

This reading nook is the project that inspired me to learn more and dig into woodworking. It's certainly not perfect, yet is by far my favorite build to date. And the best part is that my kids love it and use it all the time!

The bench is also a storage chest where we keep seasonal throw pillows. For the cushion, a local seamstress took the cushion and fabric and did a great job sewing the cushion cover. The planking on the wall was a nice touch to make the space really cozy. And my brother in law helped me with the lighting (and the idea of the reading nook).

As I was building it, I found that, despite the bench being built-in to the spot using concrete nails and screwed into the studs on either side, the top flexed and needed structural support. The steel bars in the top piece provide plenty of that support. I'm confident this nook will last a lifetime!

Cedar bird feeder finished with boiled linseed oil and mounted to a metal post.

This was built for my in-laws so they can sit by the fireplace and watch the birds through the window. They have an incredible assortment of birds that feed at a cookie sheet "feeder," along with some squirrels. So the pole makes it difficult for the squirrels, and this bird feeder is a beautiful upgrade from the cookie sheet! Boiled linseed oil is safe for animals and provides some additional protection from the harsh northern Nebraska weather.

Send me a message if you'd like me to build one for you!
