A very important step that is easy to overlook: when framing something flat such as a deck or in our case a pergola, it’s crucial to make sure the surface you are fastening to is in plane. These cedar 2x8s were some of the worst I’ve seen, with a few of the boards having 3/8” crown and widths varying from 7 1/8” - 7 5/16”. A lot of this work can be eliminated by picking through the lumber pile when purchasing, but when you have special order cedar you have to work with what you have. All in I had 45 minutes in flattening these joists with a power planer. Time well spent to guarantee a good finished product.

We finished up this beautiful home a couple weeks ago and I finally got some final pictures of it. We did all of the rough framing, windows, siding, porch timber framing and ceilings, and roof metal. On the interior we did flooring, doors, trim, tile showers, and stone on fireplaces. It was a remarkable project to be a part of with a great group of subs that kept the shedule moving along. It was exactly 7 months from our first day framing to move in day which allowed the homeowners to host thanksgiving in their new home. Needless to say, I’m pretty proud of this one. A big thanks to Jim Hadley (Truman Builders) and Steve for helping me bring this home to life.

This project was a fun one! We did a 30x120 equipment shed “add-on” to the existing 30x50 shop, replaced the sliding doors with overhead doors, installed new metal siding, and finished the inside of the shop. Stay tuned for more exciting projects, I’m going to try to be better at posting pictures of our work!

We finished up this covered patio addition today. The materials came from Superior Building Supply, Inc. the ceiling, post, and beams are all rough cut Douglas fir and they turned out great. H&H roofing put new shingles on the house earlier this year and will be back to shingle this new addition. I think they will get a ton of use out of this new outdoor space!

I think everyone needs a deck this big! We just wrapped this one up just in time for the nice weather. We tore off the existing decking, leveled out all of the beams, added all new joists, and topped it off with new composite decking, railing, and fascia. Check out the transformation on this kitchen remodel! We took it down to studs so the electrical could be updated and also reframed the ceiling. Took out a wall and widened the existing opening to the living that made the space feel so much bigger! Very fun and rewarding project and big thanks to the customer for trusting us with her project.
