You know when an old friend you care about texts you, but you're caught up in something so you think "I'll text you back soon," and then too much time goes by, and you feel bashful about it?

Hi, Facebook. It's been a minute. I remember that you exist!

Anyway, here’s a hummingbird clearwing moth (Hemaris thysbe) on some wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) that we planted last fall as part of a bee garden installation. They are day-active sphinx moths who hover like hummingbirds and sip nectar by uncurling a long proboscis that can reach to the bottom of tube-shaped flowers like this one. I'm always so mesmerized when one shows up that I have to stop what I'm doing for a minute to watch.

I spend a lot of my workdays getting sweaty and muddy, trying to make spaces for all kinds of fluttery beautiful lives. And sometimes I get caught up in that doing, and forget to share the joy parts. But they’re here. The life we make room for really does show up!
