After 20 years of working on homes around Thurston County, these are the 5 things we notice first when looking at a roof. 🏠

Our roofs deal with a little bit of everything — rain, shade, fir needles, moss, and long stretches of damp weather.

The first things we usually look for are:

* Moss building up on shaded slopes
* Granules collecting in the gutters
* Flashing starting to separate or rust
* Dips or waves in the roofline
* Interior moisture or stains that keep coming back

None of these automatically mean you need a new roof.

But they can be good signs that it is worth taking a closer look and understanding what is actually going on.

Most people think the process starts when construction begins.

It doesn’t.

Deck season is here.

But the material you choose now is what determines whether you're maintaining this deck in 2029 or just enjoying it.

We've been building decks in Thurston County for 20 years.

Here's what we've learned about each option:

Composite. Low maintenance and long life. Higher upfront cost, but the ten-year math usually favors composite.

Cedar. Beautiful and local, but needs sealing every 2-3 years. Best for craftsman-style homes and custom builds.

Pressure-treated. Budget option that works if you'll maintain it. Restaining every 2 years is part of the deal.

Ipe and hardwoods. Highest upfront cost. The deck outlives most owners. What we install on custom homes.
