From 1999-2002, Yonkers revitalized the Williamsburg Bridge, a crucial link between Manhattan and Brooklyn since 1903. With a $215 million budget from the NYCDOT, the project included replacing north roadways, pedestrian footwalks, bikeways, and major structural elements, alongside installing new lighting and drainage systems.
The project involved:
🏗 500 tradesmen (peak manpower)
🏗 200-300 ironworkers
🏗 8 crawlers & hydraulic cranes
🏗 Custom deck panel er****on equipment
An interesting project feat was assembling 25 Pedestrian Bridge spans in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and transporting them via barge across the East River to Manhattan. The combined efforts led to the early completion of the inner and outer roadways, earning Yonkers a $10 million incentive!
