RBF Colab Architecture and Design We don't just draw plans. Plans are the result -- we investigate, guide, analyze, suggest, give options, and ultimately solve unique design problems.

Our clients are design-savvy with a deep appreciation of craftsmanship and quality and are looking for sophisticated, yet comfortable spaces. Achieving this level of quality requires a conscious emphasis on the initial design. Many clients have not worked with an architect before and are unsure of what to expect. RBF CoLab doesn't simply 'plan' buildings. Plans and blueprints are the result of our

work. What we do is investigate, guide, analyze, suggest, give options, and ultimately solve your unique design problem. We place emphasis on including the client as part of the process. Through our broad experience, the best and most impactful projects are realized when there is close collaboration and an open line of communication throughout the entire process. The quality of your project and your experience begins with the architect spending a lot of time discussing your project with you, starting with some brief descriptions on what to expect during the long and sometimes unfamiliar process of design. This begins with programming your needs, creating a schematic design, creating final construction documents, and continues through the various stages of permitting, construction, and occupancy. The architect is involved in all of these steps, not just the design, and therefore, it is vital that the architect/client relationship be a strong one.

Layers coming to life in this home's main living space.

A solid walnut island taking shape in the foreground, custom cabinetry settling into place, and beyond it all a light-filled room anchored by a generous fireplace.

Each piece adds warmth, depth, and intention - the kind of spaces that only get better with time.

Trim is going up. Light is pouring in. The hewn beams define the room the way I imagined from the first sketch. And that masonry fireplace? Just the beginning of what will become the heart of this home.

I always design with permanence in mind - spaces that feel grounded, timeless, and full of natural light and natural materials. More to come as this home continues to take shape.

We’re adding on to this beautiful 1800s home — and while the new addition brings modern comfort, it’s all about keeping the spirit of the original. Thoughtful proportion, balanced massing, and a healthy dose of respect for history. Because great design doesn’t compete, it converses.

Breaking eggs, making omlettes. Been awhile since I've posted, so here's a fun project with a great story. After purchasing a 6,000 acre tract of land from the Holland Land Co in the late 1700s, the owners finally arrived on site in the mid-1800s and built this cute little national style house. It's been subjected to a number of insensitive additions over the years (buh-bye!). Now it's time to celebrate the original house and add a complimentary addition.

Breaker Box

Any electrician will warn you to first locate and flip the house's CAUSALITY circuit breaker before touching the CIRCUIT BREAKERS one.

Flashback Friday - was doing some research on Greek Revival details and the images that pop up are often of this project from some years back. I just learned today that this article - written years ago - included the project. In fact, 3 of the 8 photos in the article are from this house. So fun to see these little surprises. Rest assured, though, this project only looks this good because of the Owners' incredible taste! Photos: David Pokrivńàk

Even if you aren’t well-aquatinted with the Greek Revival style of architecture, chances are you have seen your share of temple-esque façades on churches, banks, town halls, and houses. Read this Houses by Design article to learn about a nod to Greek revival-style architecture.
