Creating Sustainable Landscapes

Creating Sustainable Landscapes Native plants can tolerate sub-zero temperatures, summer heat, and drought, all without ever needing to be watered, fertilized, and sprayed. Clay or sand?

We use native plants in our installations which attract and support butterflies, bees, and birds and requires much less supplemental water and no chemicals or fertilizers. Wet or dry? Sun or shade? There are native plants that have evolved in these niches which are great additions to any part of a landscape. Support wildlife, dramatically reduce resource inputs. Contact us for more info.

Today the crew shredded close to an acre of privet, buckthorn, and honey suckle. They also found a cool canine skull and handed out ear protection like candy. We’re excited to partner with local business, restoring nature with fire, on a few projects. In an effort to avoid herbicide on certain properties, we are mowing invasives, sowing fast establishing native grasses, and conducting prescribed burns once enough dry native “fuel” is established. Repeat as necessary to ideally top kill invasives and allow natives to get a jumpstart.

Clearing and chipping some nasties along a lake shore today. The crew found some native dogwoods and willows being smothered by advancing buckthorn and autumn olive. Now they have plenty of space to grow and flourish!

The crew spent the day removing an infestation of autumn olive to make room for a prairie seeding. They filled up an 18ft trailer 5 times with this nasty stuff! Ironically, I’ve been told that the berries make a tasty snack. I will have to try it before we eradicate this species from North America!
