A quad 40/40 with #10 AWG (rated for 30a). Its safety, general practice and code to match the breaker to the wire gauge (and vice versa). A water heater and dryer are both 240v, 30a circuits, which requires a.quad 30/30 instead. NEC 240.4(D)

The quick, "stab-in" wiring method has pro's and con's. The pro being easy installation, but the con's are multiple. The vibration of AC over time, can causes the wires to pop out of the back of the outlet, or even worse, start to burn.

This is mouse damage on the blue sheathed romex, which ate through to the copper.
The white romex is due to an 20a breaker on 14 gauge wire (only rated for 15a). The overload melted the wire and could have burned down the house!
*THIS is why you NEVER put a bigger breaker than the wire is rated for. If you need more amperage, then run bigger wire! [NEC 240.4(d)]

This is the condition of the breaker for a reported itermittent power issue. I heard a slight crackling sound and though the breaker was replaced, it was caught early enough not to have bus damage. If you experience flickering, humming, buzzing, or crackling sounds, get it checked right away!
