Cooling a large mechanical garage efficiently is a significant challenge. Working with Eric Lang at Christian Brothers Automotive, we recently moved away from the traditional approach of using large package units. As shown in the attached images, those units require substantial exterior space, concrete slabs, and crane rentals for installation.
Instead, we implemented an "out of the box" solution using three Amana S inverter systems. These units offer extreme utility savings; the variable speed compressors run at only .5 amp, compared to the 20-35 amps required by standard package units.
Beyond utility savings, this solution significantly reduces installation and equipment costs. By mounting the air handlers high on the interior walls and the outdoor units directly onto the exterior walls, we saved valuable ground space and eliminated the need for concrete slabs or large building penetrations.
