In May 2018,Dave underwent emergency surgery and required a temporary colostomy bag. By August, as the Kingfish tournament approached, Dave asked his surgeon Sam Perkins,if he could participate. Dr. Perkins answered "No,as your doctor,but as your friend and fellow fisherman,get back on the boat ." Dave took that advice and did just that.

We commemorate the second anniversary of the passing of Donovan, Dave's youngest son, who lost his life at a job site due to an unforeseen heart issue; he was the youngest of five brothers and will forever be loved.

Our Kingfish tournament scheduled for May 30 brings to mind many stories about Dave. He, along with our oldest son,Dj,and friend Bobby Wylie, was fishing off Cumberland Island when the boat completely died in the water. Dave jumped overboard and swam over a mile through shark-infested waters to Cumberland Island to seek help.

One of my favorite Mother's Day memories is when Dave surprised me. The man bought me a boat with a cabin. I don't do water. I went out on my day,toting our 5 month old son. I got very sick. The next day, Dave took a chain saw and cut the cabin off to modify "Loose Change" into a fishing boat. He and our 3 older sons loved it.
