We got your calls, and we know you’re worried (because this looks terrifying!) but this is a natural part of Louisiana’s ecosystem! Termites usually swarm once or twice a year (in early and late summer). If you see them swarming outside, there is no need to worry. If you see them swarming INSIDE, then you need to call us.

The trick to keeping these things away from your house during swarms is to keep your lights OFF. Termites will flock towards any light sources near them.

Mother's Day marks when termite activity starts to pick up. You may start seeing swarms of winged termites, called alates, around your home. These pests can cause costly damage before they’re ever noticed.

• Swarms outside are common, but if you see them indoors, contact a licensed pest professional.
• Watch for discarded wings, mud tubes, moisture issues, or soft wood.
• Reduce moisture and schedule annual termite inspections.

Termite swarms were noted in Baton Rouge and Zachary this past weekend. Here’s what to do:

1️⃣Stay Alert: Night-flying Formosan termite swarms near your property mean they’re looking for new homes. Don’t panic, but be watchful.

2️⃣Reduce Night Lights: Turn off porch lights and close blinds/curtains at night to deter them. Consider using a distant light as a diversion.

3️⃣Seal Entry Points: Check and seal windows, doors, vents, and utility line entries with weather stripping and caulk.

4️⃣Vacuum Indoors: If found inside, vacuum them up and discard the bag. Avoid spraying.

5️⃣Identify the Swarmers: Collect a sample or photo if unsure if they’re termites or ants. We can help identify them.
