Kindler Forest Management, LLC

Kindler Forest Management, LLC Kindler Forest Management, LLC is a consulting forestry company assisting Ohio landowners.

Kindler Forest Management, LLC was established in 2009 to better serve the growing population of private woodland owners in Ohio. KFM is able to assist private landowners with all aspects of forest management in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives of the landowner. Many times this leads to improving wildlife habitat or forest health and sustainability. KFM also ensures the sale of ti

mber from these properties are paid for at the highest price possible through our competitive timber bidding process. And because we work for a percentage of the sale price, it is in our best interest to make the most money possible for the landowner. KFM also conducts timber inventories and writes forest management plans to provide landowners with a complete analysis of their timber resource. In addition, KFM is able to implement many of the timber stand improvements recommended in the the management plans including, applying herbicides to invasive species, cutting grapevines, and implementing crop tree release. KFM foresters are also well versed in the federal cost-share funding that many tree farmers rely on to improve their forests as well as the property tax reduction programs offered through state and county agencies for managing a timber stand for timber production.

It’s ! Once again, it’s trees that we have to thank for the barrels critical for whiskey production, particularly oak trees. Oaks are the main species used for barrels, and white oak barrels are required for bourbon aging.

Oak is what gives whiskey its flavor. The barrel wood species, growing conditions, and portion of the tree have all been shown to impact the flavor of bourbon, in addition to the various charring and toasting treatments. White oak (Quercus alba) is the preferred oak used because of its flavor and the fact that white oak has tyloses in its vessels that prevent leaking.

In addition to their contribution to the bourbon and wood product industry, oaks are critical wildlife species. Many of Ohio’s forests are dominated by oaks in the overstory but are not developing new young oaks to take their place. As the demand for white oak increases, the regeneration of white oak in forests has been dwindling due to changes in land management over the past decades.

Therefore, active management to promote oak seedling establishment and growth is very important. These techniques can include prescribed fire and timber harvests specifically designed to benefit oak seedling development.
